About Me
I’m Emily! I’m originally from Norfolk, and although I’ve moved around and explored the world a bit, Norwich eventually pulled me back. I love its cultural vibrance and rebellious spirit. It feels like a welcome home to individuality.
I’ve worked in some different areas throughout my life, including retail, hospitality, and more predominantly in family support and advocacy. This mainly involved working with complex family dynamics, and in supporting families experiencing domestic abuse.
I really enjoy the flexibility of working for myself, and when I’m not working, I enjoy running, pottery, and gardening.

My Experience
I have always been interested in people, and what makes us tick in relationship with ourselves and with others. In 2013 after my own experience as a counselling client, I decided to train to be come a counsellor. I spent three years at Matrix College of Counselling and Psychotherapy, which gave me a really strong foundation in understanding the psychology of people, as well as the skills to listen deeply with compassion.
I have worked in private practice since 2018. Additional to this, I have experience of working for local authorities in Suffolk, Domestic Abuse services, as well as in Sure-start Children’s Centres.
In 2023 I began tutoring on the Counselling Skills course at Matrix, and in 2024, on the Integrative Counselling degree course.
Areas of Interest
I have lots of experience working with all sorts of people, and all sorts of issues.
These include (but are not limited to) bereavement and loss, anxiety, depression, self esteem and self worth.
I am particularly interested in;
Identity, Diversity & Social Justice
- Working with people to explore gender, relationship and sexual diversity from an anti-oppressive, and affirmative perspective.
- Working with people to explore their neurodiversity.
- Exploring intersectional identity and how different aspects of who you are interact and influence your experience of the world and relationships.
- Understanding the impact of power, privilege, and oppression on our mental health and wellbeing.
- Creating space to process experiences of discrimination, marginalisation, or identity related trauma.
Human Connection & Relational Depth
- Exploring patterns in relationships and attachment styles.
- Working through relationship difficulties and communication challenges.
- Developing capacity for deeper intimacy and authentic connection.
- Understanding how past relationships shape present experiences.
Existential Exploration – The Big Questions
- Navigating questions of identity: ‘Who am I really?’.
- Exploring purpose and meaning: ‘Why am I here?’.
- Grappling with life’s fundamental mysteries: ‘What’s it all about?’.
- Finding direction and purpose in times of uncertainty or transition.

Fearless Leaders
Important thought leaders who inspire my work:

Dr. Brene Brown
Researcher on vulnerability and shame. I found Dr Brown's early work on embracing vulnerability as a way to foster connection, compassion and authenticity deeply inspiring.

Dr. Carl Rogers
Pioneer in Humanistic Counselling. Developed Person Centred Counselling. He talked about the idea that we all have innate drive towards growth and fulfilment. This speaks to me of our innate potential. We all have it - sometimes we just need a fellow traveller to stand alongside us. That's what therapy helps with!

Dr. Irvin Yalom
Dr. Yalom introduced me to Existentialism. He draws from philosophy, and integrates existential philosophy into therapeutic practice. He talks about living authentically through confrontation with the 'ultimate concerns' of death, freedom, isolation and meaning. He doesn't shy away from these difficult themes, and I find this pretty aspirational!
